Year of The Horse Card

I purchased this die cut and stamp set in early January in order to make some Chinese New Year cards. .This is the year  of the Fire Horse. As might be expected of the element of fire, this horse represents intense energy, passion and tumultuous change. It starts on February 17 so you still have time to make a card! Even if you miss the date, this set in my opinion, is very versatile. By changing the color of the horse from gold to natural tones of brown, grey or black, I can use him in  the design of another style card using a rustic background setting. He can be done in bright colors such as teal, pink or yellow to create a more artsy version of the horse to use on a card for an all purpose card or a birthday card. The sayings included with the die set lend themselves well to birthday cards.

I made this card with a shaker top! I had the golden sequins on hand and I used the clear packaging from the stamp set as the basis of the shaker top. I cut out a piece of the plastic a bit larger than the card back I was using and placed clear setting tape around all 4 sides. I peeled the paper off of 3 of the sides, place the sequins in and then sealed the back of the card by removing the paper from the last piece of tape. I then placed the card back on top of my card and then added the front elements. I had some scraps leftover so I added a bit of gold to the inside panel of the card and a little bling. In order to save myself time when creating the inside of a card, I pre cut some light color panels to use because by the time I get to the inside of the card I am anxious to be finished! Check out the video to see the shaker in action.

Welcome to my Card World!

My name is Valerie and I am an avid card maker. I've been making cards for longer than I would care to remember. I even had a regular article in a card crafting magazines for more than two years. I have always been a huge fan of stationary and greeting cards. I well remember the days of anxiously awaiting a reply to a recent letter I had written to a friend or family member, anxious to hear back about the latest news. I loved to peruse the stationary aisle of the local drugstore or card shop to see the new stuff! While writing and receiving  letters in the mail has gone by the wayside, greeting cards, for the most part, have not. I had left card design behind for a few years in favor of other time consuming hobbies but now I am back and loving the new designs and updated materials out there. I find so many great card inspiration on YouTube that I use as a jumping off point to my own creativity. I seldom copy a card design exactly, though that can work great as well. I am hop...
